APPLICATION PREPARATION

Preparing for an invoice finance application

A practical checklist to help you prepare for an initial conversation about invoice finance.

Start with your business

Be ready to explain what your business does, who your customers are, your usual payment terms and what you want funding to help with.

Review your sales ledger

Prepare an up-to-date aged debtor report showing unpaid invoices, due dates and any overdue balances. Identify disputed invoices, credit notes and any significant concentration in one customer.

Gather supporting records

Providers may request recent accounts, management figures, business bank statements, sample invoices and evidence of delivery or completed work. Requirements vary by provider and facility.

Think about credit control

Consider whether you would like support collecting customer payments or prefer to retain that responsibility. This helps frame the discussion about factoring and discounting.

Prepare your questions

Ask about service fees, discount charges, minimum charges, contract length, notice periods, security requirements and how the facility operates day to day. Review the full terms before deciding.

Share documents securely

Use the initial enquiry form for basic business and contact details. Do not include bank account details, passwords or identity documents. Ask for a secure route before sharing supporting financial records.
