Invoice finance for transport and haulage companies
Haulage invoice finance may release cash from eligible completed journeys before customers settle their freight bills. Assess whether the advance can help with fuel, drivers and the next operating week.
Positive Funding Limited is a finance broker. Funding is subject to provider assessment and agreed terms.
A delivered load is not yet money in the bank
Fuel and driver costs start before the journey is complete. The customer’s payment cycle may start only after the invoice and delivery evidence have reached its accounts team.
Shorten avoidable billing delays first, then measure the remaining collection gap. Funding works best when supported by accurate invoices and records of completed transport.
Keep delivery records ready
Connect signed or electronic proof of delivery to the correct customer invoice.
Plan recurring running costs
Compare usable advances with fuel, wages and other near-term commitments.
Check freight account limits
A few large customers can determine how much of the ledger is fundable.
Turning completed haulage into funding
Submit a supported freight bill
Provide delivery confirmation and the agreed rate, including approved extras. Separate any disputed waiting-time or damage charge.
Confirm funds available
The provider reviews the debt and customer limit before applying the advance terms. Initial facility setup and ongoing invoice approval are separate stages.
Reconcile customer remittances
Allocate payment and deductions to the relevant invoices. The advance and charges are accounted for before the balance is returned.
Proof of delivery helps, but contract terms still matter
Damage claims, late-delivery deductions and set-off rights may affect the amount owed. Explain whether you invoice a shipper, forwarder or another haulier. The party that booked the load is not always the legal entity responsible for the debt.
Choose support for your freight ledger
Invoice factoring
Factoring can help a transport office follow up unpaid accounts. Agree how delivery queries and claims are routed back to operations.
Invoice discounting
Discounting may suit operators with dependable in-house collections and reconciliation. Your staff continue managing the customer ledger.
Selective invoice finance
For a temporary shortfall on one established freight account, ask about selective funding. Check the customer limit and total charges against the amount needed.
Compare factoring and invoice discounting before choosing who manages collections.

An eligible £56,000 freight balance at a hypothetical 85% advance produces £47,600 initially. The other £8,400 is before fees and adjustments. It is not all an automatic charge.
Actual availability depends on accepted invoices, limits, claims and the written facility.
Model costs using real collection times
Use your customers’ actual payment record when requesting a quote. Funding charges can rise if advances remain outstanding longer, while service fees may reflect invoice volume and collection work. Include minimums and exit costs. Read how to compare total facility charges.
Prepare your operating cash picture
Have a debtor report, sample transport orders, proof of delivery and recent accounts ready. Show payroll and fuel payment dates, major customer balances and any disputed deductions. Include vehicle finance and other borrowing in the assessment information.
Haulage invoice funding questions
Can invoices without delivery evidence qualify?
Ask the provider what evidence it accepts. Missing proof can delay approval or make the debt unsuitable until the delivery position is established.
Is an owner-driver business too small?
Provider minimums differ. Explain turnover, customer quality and invoice values so the likely suitability and cost can be assessed.
Can it replace vehicle finance?
Invoice funding supports cash against receivables. A vehicle purchase has a different repayment and security structure and should be considered separately.
What if the customer deducts a freight claim?
Update the provider promptly. The disputed or reduced amount may no longer support the same advance.
Discuss funding around your transport week
Tell Positive Funding who you invoice, how delivery evidence is approved and when fuel and wages fall due. We can explore the gap using your actual freight payment cycle.
