Invoice finance for IT and technology companies
Completed IT work can leave a balance sheet full of receivables while salaries and supplier bills fall due. Explore funding against qualifying technology invoices without waiting for the client’s full payment cycle.
Positive Funding Limited is a finance broker. Funding is subject to provider assessment and agreed terms.
Separate billable delivery from tomorrow’s workload
Managed service providers and technology consultancies often run several billing models at once. Support may be invoiced monthly, hardware on delivery and development at signed-off milestones. Those distinctions matter when assessing what can be funded.
A provider needs an identifiable debt, not simply forecast recurring revenue. Map the funding request to work already delivered and accepted.
Fund completed delivery
Show the accepted work behind each invoice, from a support period to an installed system.
Understand recurring billing
Distinguish earned service revenue from subscriptions billed ahead of future delivery.
Keep reporting manageable
Check how your accounting records, credit notes and receipts will reach the finance provider.
How an IT invoice becomes available funding
Identify the billable event
Match the invoice to the statement of work, service period or hardware delivery. Keep approval emails and milestone acceptance where relevant.
Submit the eligible balance
The funder reviews the customer and any remaining obligations. Approved debts contribute to availability within the agreed limits.
Allocate client receipts
Customer payments reduce the advance outstanding. Reconcile credits and adjustments promptly so your ledger and the provider’s records remain aligned.
Cancellation and acceptance clauses deserve attention
A twelve-month invoice may include services you have yet to perform. A development milestone may still depend on user acceptance testing. Explain these conditions before assuming either invoice will qualify. Separate hardware, licence and consultancy elements where they have different payment rights.
Match finance to your internal finance team
Invoice factoring
Factoring adds help with receivables administration and payment chasing. Agree how technical queries return to your account managers so a collection call does not become an unresolved support issue.
Invoice discounting
With discounting, your own team continues collecting. It may fit an established business with accurate recurring billing and reliable reconciliation, subject to assessment.
Selective invoice finance
A large one-off implementation invoice may justify asking about selective funding. Compare that with the cost and administration of supporting a regular monthly ledger.
Compare factoring and invoice discounting before choosing who manages collections.
Illustration: an accepted implementation milestone
A £24,000 milestone invoice accepted for funding at 85% would produce £20,400 before any upfront deductions. The other £3,600 is not automatically a fee; it forms the balance from which agreed charges may be deducted at settlement.
This is a hypothetical calculation, not a rate offer or a guarantee that milestone billing qualifies.
Allow for the cost of managing the ledger
Request pricing for your mix of recurring invoices and larger project bills. Include facility fees, funding charges and any minimum commitment. Also consider the staff time needed to reconcile receipts or maintain an integration. See how to compare invoice finance costs.
Information that helps assess an IT business
Have a recent debtor report, sample statements of work and billing schedules ready. Explain cancellation rights, credits, deferred revenue and the share of sales from your largest client. Providers may also ask for accounts and details of borrowing; customer quality alone does not determine approval.
Questions from technology businesses
Can an unsigned development milestone be funded?
Do not count on it. Where payment depends on acceptance, missing sign-off can prevent the invoice from qualifying. Show the funder the contract and current approval position.
Are SaaS subscriptions eligible?
Potentially, but advance billing and refund rights need assessment. A subscription invoice for future access is different from a debt for a completed support period.
What evidence supports hardware invoices?
Keep purchase orders, delivery confirmation and the terms governing returns. Explain any supplier claim over goods or customer right to offset other balances.
Must we change our accounting package?
Not necessarily. Confirm supported exports or integrations, reporting frequency and who resolves reconciliation differences before selecting a facility.
Talk through your billing model
Let Positive Funding know whether your income comes from managed support, software projects or hardware sales. Include the payment delay you want to address so the discussion focuses on usable funding rather than a headline limit.
